Press Release:
The collaboration
of sisters Ruth Avra and Dana Lynn Kleinman, a.k.a. KX2, bring
us the latest evolution of their work in "VECTOR|vector". Not
only has their work been brought to the next level in construction
and meaning, but apparently so has the mathematics involved
as they now involve advanced algebra in addition to geometry.
This leap in
complexity is also exemplary of the maturation of the work.
Three
dimensional metal construction juts off the wall at the viewer
in unexpected ways as hyper pigmented painting demands attention.
As soon as the initial strong impact subsides, the viewer is
left to become mesmerized in the meticulous attention to detail
in both the hand sanding of the metal and the textural paintings
on canvas. Thus the work is striking from a distance, yet enveloping
from up close.
The
viewer is well aware that there are complex mathematical constructs
involved in each piece, but the work also seems to talk about
a myriad of other issues. The size and presence of the large
pieces certainly makes one aware of their own body and personal
references begin to emerge. One cannot help but think of the
artists' relationship as sisters as dualities are exposed and
worked through in each piece.
Perhaps
the most unique and exciting addition to this latest work is
the introduction of what KX2 refers to as "minis". The binary
of microcosm/macrocosm is equalized as somehow these small scale
sterling silver pieces hold as strong of a presence as the larger
works. The fact that each large scale piece has an "identical"
miniature of itself is yet another thing to wrap your brain
around as you enjoy the work on yet another level.
